Aeration & Seeding

What is Aeration & Overseeding?

Aeration is the essential process that aids the delivery of oxygen, water, and nutrients to the grass's root system, fostering optimal growth and well-being for the grass. The main idea behind aeration is to create small openings in the ground, enabling rainwater or sprinkler water and nutrients to penetrate the soil more efficiently. This is done by machine, taking thousands of small 1-2 inch plugs out of your lawn to loosen the dirt under it. Aeration helps prevent soil compaction, encourages root development, and contributes to the overall resilience of the lawn. Overseeding is the term used for seeding a lawn after aeration. Overseeding after aeration allows the seeds to germinate much faster and reach more nutritious soil. Not only does aeration & overseeding allow for your lawn to look better, but it also helps to prevent weeds! By aerating and overseeding you are allowing your lawn to grow thick enough so that weeds won't have space to grow!

How to tell if your lawn needs Aeration & Overseeding:

  • Water starting to not soak into the ground and instead forming puddles. Your lawn absorbs nutrients and water through the ground and when it becomes compacted it becomes much harder for water to get through. Whether its sprinkler water or rain water, your lawn should be absorbing water at a reasonable pace and and if it is not then aeration will improve this.

  • If your lawn has discoloration you will most likely need Aeration & Overseeding. Discoloration is caused by a deficiency in nutrients or water which can either be caused by the soil not having enough of the proper nutrients or the soil is too compacted for the water & nutrients to reach its roots.

Why should you Aerate & Seed your lawn?

Reduced weeds

3

The use of Aeration & Seeding together allows for your lawn to grow thick enough to reduce the overall amount of weeds in your yard. In return this makes your lawn look much more simplistic & inviting.

Increased seed germination & root development

2

Aerating your yard takes thousands of small dirt cores out of your yard, which relieves a large amount of pressure on the root systems. This allows for increased root size development & strength and increases the overall germination rate among new seed by making it easier to grow healthier and faster.

Increased lawn thickness

By allowing your lawn to absorb the proper amount of nutrients it needs to thrive you are also increasing its overall health and strength. Having a healthy lawn means fewer dead spots due to dogs, pets, or even foot traffic. Adding fertilizer also strengthens your lawn's root system which allows your yard to not be as easily affected by harsh weather such as flooding, heavy storms, and heat.
